A beautiful course that is not usually very busy, however a bit too expensive at $85 on weekends. Warning...a very challenging layout, easy to get into trouble. I like to play this course when I think I'm playing well, just to see if I really am or not. Also, no yardage markers of any kind, and for some reason the course isn't on my Garmin S1, so yardage wise you're on your own. A course you should try at least once, if for nothing else but the scenery and the clubhouse. You'll either say it's too hard and never play it again, or you'll accept the challenge and want to come back and try to do better.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area, Better courses for less nearby

We did the stay and play package at Nakoma, 2 nights, 4 rounds of golf for $420, I thought it was a great deal. Accomodations were great. Only negative about the course was sand in the bunkers. Very challenging course, if you spray it, you'll lose some golf balls.

Bottom line: I would play again

I prefer the Grizzly or Whitehawk to the Dragon however they are much more expensive. Dragon is extremely punishing for shots just slightly missed. Also, a few of the greens (#1 & #9) are nearly impossible. The dragon is definitely a shotmaker's course with risk/reward on almost every shot. The Dragon has still not recovered from the two years it was closed. The bunkers are mostly in poor shape but the greens and the fairways are very nice. The tee shot on #10 is one of the best on any par 4 I have ever played.

This course has financial problems right now so the course is not in that good of condition. However the biggest thing this course has going for it is the challenge it presents. If you play it with knowing it's going to beat you up then it is enjoyable because of how challenging it is.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing, Worse than average course for the area

This course has been renamed "Nakoma Golf Course" now and has been softened since it first opened. (There are plans for further renovations in the next couple of years). It's not nearly as tough as it was a few years back -- trees have been removed, the greens are much softer and receive the ball much better. You will still, however, find a tremendous golf challenge, one that will punish your mistakes. What you won't find are a lot of crowds -- it's rare to see another foursome in front of or behind you except on the busiest days. Whitehawk is twice as much to play, but Nakoma is every bit the golf course. The only real negative is the clubhouse -- tacky and ugly.

Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Best course in the area, Bargain priced based on quality and competitive area pricing
